Your career is your business – its up to you not your boss to take charge of it. In fact when it comes to your life and your career you are the boss.

There are all sorts of factors that will shape your career success and progress and there are all sorts of pressures. But beyond and above this the one thing that will shape how far you get is you: your energy, passion, courage, drive and determination.

Over the last couple of years I’ve been running a range of career development programmes within organisations including the NHS and I’ve seen lots of these issues in action.

  1. List your skills, talents, passions and career accomplishments
  2. Produce your own 1-2 page career development plan with clear goals
  3. Update your CV make in clear, crisp, dynamic and accomplishment focused
  4. Utilise Linked In – have a strong profile, link to key contacts, get testimonials
  5. Build your team, get networking and reconnect (and check out my event)
  6. Get a mentor – get someone who’s been there and done it to help you thrive
  7. Get a coach – if you are stuck or want to move up get a coach like athletes do
  8. Be visible / indispensible – give 100%, be proactive, positive and passionate
  9. Raise your profile: write/ speak in meetings, at evens, conferences & online,
  10. Get involved / get ahead: join committees, boards, projects, volunteer, fundraise, attend workshops / talks – take the lead.
