Guest Blog & design competition
by Priya, Sonali and Tarangini from Purvaai soft furnishings
Hi Rasheed. Since working with you as a coach on the TiE UK and British Library programme things have moved ahead leaps and bounds. Our venture , Purvaai, which means ‘Winds from the East’ was founded to explore and reflect the diversity of ancient Indian art and craft and its influences on modern home décor. Having started exactly a year ago in April 2011 bursting with ideas, we have fantastic plans for our future with the launch of our e-commerce website in April, a Spring exhibition in Knutsford in May and a Summer Extravaganza in London in June this year.
Textile Design Opportunity for Young Designers:
Having recently exhibited in a prestigious trade show in London and received accolades for our ideology, we have launched a textile design competition for the current students and recent graduates of UK design schools themed ‘Reminiscing the Raj’. This is a fantastic opportunity for young designers to interpret global design influences on home decor in their very special way. More information is available on www.purvaai.co.uk and the competition information pack can be downloaded here.
This competition is being judged by a panel representing academia, buyers from the industry, design bloggers and manufacturers – thus making it comprehensive. Along with cash prizes and due credit, the winning designs also have the potential to be featured in Purvaai’s future collections. We are very excited about this collaboration with local British talent. We look forward to your continuing support and guidance.
