Over the weekend I was invited onto 5 BBC Local Radio stations to discuss our celebrity culture and the challenges of those in the limelight in the wake of the sad loss of Whitney Houston just over a week ago.

Like many I was very saddened to hear the loss of yet another star at a very young age. Whilst celebrity may evoke a life wherethings are ‘greener on the other side’ it can be far more slippery and fame can be a very challenging magifying glass. What’s more the entertainment industy is especially tough as for many the career peak is 19-29, a time when most of us are just finding oneself. The cruel thing is that one’s career may have even ended by the time an artists reaches the 40s of 50s and this is a time when one may actually be at their peak in terms of life expereinece, having something to say, perfecting ones art… and if maintained one’s voice might also be at a peak at that age.

Ironically it was my aspiration to succeed in the music business that led me into coaching as I met so many artists who struggeled with life balance, confidence and career progression in that tough industry.

Here’s my interview on BBC Radio Leicester about the legacy of Whitney Houston, celebrity culture, the pressures of life and being successful. The link is to BBC I Player and remain live up until Feb 27.
